BBB says cooperate cautiously with Census

May 1, 2010 By Bob Hague

Door to door U.S. Census visits are underway, and while Ran Hoth with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau doesn’t anticipate problems, he wants residents to pay attention. It’s not okay for Census workers – or anyone else who comes to your door – to request Social Security numbers or any other personal information. “Those are large red flags,” says Hoth.

Hoth says there should be no problem identifying legitimate canvassers, who have Census Bureau issued identification and shoulder bags. Residents can contact the Census Bureau if they are unsure. That number: 630-288-9200. Hoth says it’s important to cooperate with the Census enumerators, even if you already filled out and mailed your Census form.
