Operation Air Brake underway today

May 5, 2010 By Bob Hague

Semi drivers are under increased scrutiny today for Operation Air Brake. Lieutenant Patti Hansen of the Wisconsin State Patrol says her agency and local law enforcement authorities around Wisconsin will be doing inspections today. “We don’t want large commercial vehicles traveling down our highways with defective brakes,” says Hansen. “We want to reduce the incidences of crashes and injuries on our highways.”

During an inspection last year, state troopers found nearly 25 percent of trucks with violations for brakes and other safety requirements, and took them off the road. Should motorists be worried? “No, I don’t believe they’re necessarily unsafe,” says Hansen. “We just want to make sure that we’re present. We do these inspections as part of our normal course of duties.”
