Packers switching things up on defense

The Green Bay Packers have made a position change on the defensive line.  Ryan Pickett and B.J. Raji have switched positions.  Raji is now the starting nose tackle and Pickett is the left defensive end.

Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers was asked if he’s getting players ready for the possibility of not having Johnny Jolly.

But hearing from both players after Wednesday’s OTA workout, they believe the move is permanent.  Capers said regardless, this is the time of year when you start developing depth.

The coaches say Raji and Pickett could switch back at any time, but for now, they’ll continue to get work at their new spots.

Jolly’s felony drug possession trial is scheduled to start on Friday, but will likely be delayed again because of scheduling issues.  There’s still a chance that Jolly could draw a suspension from NFL and the Packers know they have to have a plan in place if that happens..

I like the fact that the Packers, in their second year of the new 3-4 defense, are preparing themselves for the possibility if they lose players to suspension or injury.  This is the time of year to run your experiments and it looks like the Packers coaching staff definitely has a plan.
