Women’s summit looks to prompt policy (AUDIO)

May 13, 2010 By Brian Moon

Future battles and past victories were highlighted at the first ever Wisconsin Women’s Health Policy Summit. Advocates, medical practitioners and political figures gathered in Madison for the event which tackled issues such as substance abuse, cancer, economic health and infant mortality.

A panel discussion highlighted the Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Act. WRN caught up with panelist and author of the bill, State Senator Judy Robson, who also addressed a recent survey that shows many providers are still not in compliance with the 2008 law.

More than 250 people attended the Wednesday event, which included keynote speakers Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton and Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake.

The Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health said a goal of the summit was to “take a first step in creating a comprehensive women’s health policy agenda for Wisconsin.”
