Former congressional candidate apparent suicide

June 30, 2010 By WRN Contributor

A Green Bay area physician who recently dropped out of the race for the Eighth Congressional District seat in northeastern Wisconsin is dead, apparently as suicide. Doctor Marc Trager died Tuesday. The Brown County Sheriff’s Department said Trager died at his suburban Howard home from a self-inflicted gunshot, and was alone at the time. His wife dialed 911 when she found the body.

Trager, one of several Republicans hoping to oppose incumbent Democrat, Representative Steve Kagen, dropped out of the race two weeks, ago citing health concerns. A family spokesman, Troy Murphy of Green Bay Community Church, said Trager was dealing with depression and anxiety. “Mark was a dedicated member of the community and this church family, who left this world a much better place,” said Murphy. “In our grief, we ask that you not allow Mark’s death to be in vain, and take very seriously the effects of depression.” Trager was 64 years old. Funeral arrangements are pending.
