Honoring Wisconsin troops

June 4, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The Wisconsin National Guard is planning a large welcome-home ceremony later this month for about 3,200 soldiers who spent nearly a year in Iraq.

Captain Joy Staab says they’re holding the “Back from the Sand” celebration in Stevens Point on June 19th for members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat team.

Staab says the community event will honor the many troops from across the state who were on active duty overseas with a parade, live entertainment, and a variety of other activities.

The 32nd Infantry Brigade returned home in February, but Staab says they decided to wait until the weather warmed up to host a celebration.

The 32nd is made up of units from around the state. Staab says they picked Stevens Point because the city is in a central location.
