Pickup sales pick up

June 15, 2010 By WRN Contributor

It might be a sign the economy is turning around. Sales of pickup trucks are increasing.

Nationally, they increased 19-percent last month compared to sales in May of 2009. In Wisconsin, they’re also up nearly 30-percent, according to Scott Quimby of Reg-Trak, Incorporated. The Waterloo-based company tracks new vehicle registrations.

Quimby says there was an extra week of reporting time for the month of May for registrations, and admits that could have been a factor. Still, analysts say increased sales of pickup trucks are an encouraging sign, since contractors buy them when times are improving.
