A big statewide welcome home celebration for members of the Wisconsin National Guard is taking place today in Stevens Point. The event is for the 3,200 members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, including the Appleton-based 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry, who returned home in January, after spending several months in Iraq.
Cpt. Joy Staab of the National Guard says with soldiers and their families, they know at least 6,000 people are coming. “In my experience this has never been done before. The communities have never really come together to throw this kind event,” she says.
The public is also invited. Staab they’ll have a parade, live entertainment and family activities at a park in Stevens Point.
