WIAA State Baseball Tournament is in the books

Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, the WIAA State Baseball Tournament wrapped up. 

In the Division 1 title game Bay Port (25-7) doubled up Madison La Follette 10-5.  The Pirates winning back-to-back state titles, their only two in school history in eighth tournament appearances.  Madison La Follette (19-10) was part of their fourth every state tournament and advance passed the quarterfinals for the first time.

University School (24-7) cashed in with the Division 2 title in the schools first ever trip to the State Tournament.  They topped Altoona 8-3.  Altoona (25-5) was also playing in their first State Tournament.

Marathon (27-3) put their third gold ball in the trophy case with a 15-7 win over Aquinas (23-8) in Division 3.  It was also the second title in the last three years for Marathon.  Aquinas was appearing in its fourth straight tournament and fourth tournament overall.  They won in 2007, were runner-up in 2008, and lost in the semifinals in 2009. 

Catholic Central (21-10) took out McDonnell Central (25-4) in the Division 4 title game 14-4 in 5 innings.  It’s the fourth title since 2004 for Catholic Central in five appearances over that time.  McDonnell Central was playing in their fourth tournament since 2004 but still has not won it all.
