WIAA State Softball Update

June 18, 2010 By Bill Scott

The WIAA State Softball tournament opened up Thursday in the heat and humidity at Goodman Diamond in Madison.  The Division 1 quarter and semifinals filled the day lasting from 9:00 AM to close to 10:00 PM.  Kaukauna and Homestead (Mequon) were left standing to participate in Saturday’s Championship.

Homestead opened the day with a 1-0 win over Wilmot Area in the quarterfinals before holding off Watertown 3-1 in the semifinals.  Watertown scored three-times in the seventh for a thrilling 7-5 win over South Milwaukee in their quarterfinal game.

Kaukauna started the day with fellow Fox Valley Association foe Appleton East claiming a 2-0 win.  They then shut out defending state runner-up Chippewa Falls 3-0 in the semifinals. Falls took out Verona Area 7-0 in the quarterfinals.

Homestead and Kaukauna will both be looking for their first ever WIAA State Softball Championship.  Big difference though is Homestead is at tournament number eleven, Kaukauna is playing in their first.

Today is the rest of the semifinals:

Division 2

Luxemberg-Casco vs. Fort Atkinson (6:00 PM)

Rice Lake vs. Union Grove

Division 3

Peshtigo vs. Lancaster (1:30 PM)

Arcadia vs. Winnebago Lutheran

Division 4

Tigerton vs. Potosi (9:00 AM)

Hurley vs. Racine Lutheran
