Beloit police have arrested the mother of a toddler reportedly abused by a 10 year-old babysitter. Captain Bill Tyler says Stephanie Schober, who turned 21 Friday, should have been able to tell that her child was injured over a period of time. “The parent should have reasonably been able to assess that the child was injured, or continued to be injured, over a period of time,” Tyler says. “In consultation with the D-A’s office we felt that child abuse, at least, was appropriate. That could be amended when all the reports are in.”
The 10 year-old babysitter was also in Rock County court on Friday. Police say she confessed to hitting the toddler with a variety of objects and throwing the child into a bathtub. A judge ordered a competency hearing for her. She’s being held in the non-secure section of the Rock County Juvenile Detention Center.
