Transitional jobs program unveiled

July 14, 2010 By Bob Hague

A $ 34 million program financed by federal Recovery Act money will provide thousands of temporary jobs to low-income Wisconsin residents over the next two years. Reggie Bicha, secretary of the state Department of Children and Families, says some four thousand people will be benefiting from the Transitional Jobs Demonstration Program. Bicha stresses that these are “real jobs, with real paychecks.” Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 24, or noncustodial parents between the ages of 21 and 64, unemployed for at least four weeks, and ineligible for unemployment insurance benefits and W-2.
