football program.

A member of Bret Bielema’s 2008 recruiting class, the defensive end has transferred to North Dakota State where he’ll have three years of eligibility and can play immediately with the Bison.

Westphal told the Appleton Post Crescent that it became apparent to him during a team meeting early this summer that things weren’t going to work out with the Badgers.

North Dakota State had originally offered Westphal a scholarship after his junior year at Menasha.

As a high school senior, Westphal was ranked as the No. 1 state player by both Rivals.com and Scout.com.
