When your diet doesn’t get a holiday

Holiday barbecues are often anything but healthy. If you do want are watching your weight. Barbara Troy, a professor at Marquette University, does not recommend partaking in the Wisconsin staple of sausages but rather leaner meats to grill like chicken and fish.

As for side dishes, the registered dietician says watch out mayonnaise or egg based dishes which can be calorically dense and high in fat. From a food safety standpoint, Bell says those types of dishes should be served in a shallow pan so they can quickly cool down in the refrigerator after being displayed.

But most of all Troy says have fun.
