Reflecting on Wisconsin’s Civil War history

August 7, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The state Veterans Affairs Department wants to make sure Wisconsin’s soldiers are remembered next year, when the nation recognizes the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Wisconsin Veterans Museum Director Michael Telzrow says the state is putting together a Civil War sesquicentennial commission to organize events in the Badger State.

Telzrow says they’re hoping to get as many historical groups involved as possible, in order to raise awareness of the role Wisconsin played in the Civil war. Among the many contributions was the Iron Brigade, which was involved in many of the major engagements in the Eastern theater during the war.

Telzrow says events statewide could include encampments, re-enactments, exhibits, and other programs.
