2001 Brewers are off the hook

September 22, 2010 By Bill Scott

In 2001 Milwaukee Brewers are off the hook, after setting a Major League record by striking out 1,399 times as a team.

Last night, the Arizona Diamondbacks set a new MLB strikeout record, finishing their game (3-1 win over Colorado) with 1,403 strikeouts.  There’s still two weeks left in the season, which means there’s plenty of time for the Diamondbacks to add to the record total.

Mark Reynolds was at the plate when the new record was set.  He whiffed for the 201st time, which is just 22 shy of the individual strikeout record he set a year ago.
