Marking the anniversary of 911

September 11, 2010 By Jackie Johnson

An emotional anniversary — nine years later.

Former New York City Detective Dan Conry currently lives west of Madison, but he grew up in New York and very clearly remembers 9-11.

Conry says he commemorates the victims of the terrorist attacks with quiet reflection. He prefers to stay away from news coverage, though, considering he worked at ground zero as an emergency responder after the attacks. “I saw things that even I, as a seasoned New York City detective, I never thought I’d see.”

Conry says his mother worked in the world trade center, but fortunately she was away from the building when the planes hit. However, he says, she lost hundreds of friends in an instant. Conry says the anniversary of the tragedy stirs up a lot of emotions, even all these years later.
