Police group splits support between parties

September 30, 2010 By WRN Contributor

A group that represents law enforcement officers around the state isn’t paying attention to political parties when it comes to making endorsements for governor and attorney general. The Wisconsin Professional Police Association is running a TV ad to show its support for Democrat Tom Barrett for governor and Republican J.B. Van Hollen for attorney general.

Jim Palmer, executive director of the group, says they want to highlight their bi-partisan reputation by weighing in through a TV ad. He hopes voters find them credible. Palmer says their members believe Barrett has shown over the years that he’s willing to make difficult decisions, while projecting core services like public safety.

He says they’re impressed how Van Hollen has reached out to law enforcement during his first term, and eliminated the DNA testing backlog at the state crime lab.
