State students score well on SAT

September 14, 2010 By Bob Hague

Not many Wisconsin high school grads take the SAT test, compared to the ACT, but those that did performed well. Deputy state Superintendent Mike Thompson says only about four percent of Wisconsin high school graduates take the SAT. Wisconsin 2010 graduates who took the SAT posted results that were from 87 to 94 points higher than the national average on each of the critical reading, mathematics, and writing exams. In Wisconsin, and most Midwestern states, more students take the ACT college admissions test. Wisconsin had 69 percent of its 2010 graduates take the ACT while in high school. Their results on the ACT were above national averages.
