Wednesday news from 1265 Lombardi

September 29, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field today, their first day of work since falling 20-17 to the Chicago Bears in Monday night football action.

Brad Jones returned to the practice field after missing time with a knee injury.  But the Packers went without pads on the first day back.

Mike McCarthy said that Frank Zombo is his starter at left outside linebacker right now.

McCarthy went on to explain that he’s changing his approach to injured players with regards to their involvement in the practice week and eventual game on the weekend.

After Monday’s game, cornerback Charles Woodson took liberties with some of the calls made by officials and to an extent, the way the NFL in general penalizes defensive players.  Mike McCarthy said he didn’t have a problem with Woodson giving his opinion.

The Packers will workout in full pads on Thursday.  The coach said rookie Mike Neal is getting closer to returning to active duty, but he wants to see Neal make it through an entire practice and then come back and be ready to go again the next day.

Linebacker Clay Matthews said after practice that the defense played well against the Bears but have to clean up the penalties as they get ready to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
