Beloit shooting prompts school lockdown

October 14, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The shooting for a former student locked down a high school in Beloit Wednesday afternoon. Police say the victim 18-year-old Luis Angel Gonzalez graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and was with high school age companions at the time of the incident.

Police responded to the location where Gonzalez was found in a vehicle but they say the shooting occurred somewhere else. The victim was driven away from the scene of the shooting by friends to a place they felt was safer, according to Captain Bill Tyler. Gonzalez died from injuries in the hospital.

Tyler says they haven’t ruled out the shooting as a gang-or-drug related crime.  An autopsy is scheduled for today in Madison.
