Hockey Badgers win Icebreaker consolation game

The Wisconsin men’s hockey team earned their first win of the season, shutting out Holy Cross 6-0 in the consolation game of the Ice Breaker Tournament in St. Louis.  Senior goaltender Brett Bennett notched 28 saves to earn the shutout for the Badgers (1-1). 

Craig Smith tallied a pair of goals for the Badgers, who also got goals from Podge Turnbull, Derek Lee, Ryan Little and freshman Michael Mersch. 

Wisconsin finished 2 for 6 on the power-play and held Holy Cross to 0 for 6 with the man advantage.

Next week, the Badgers open their home slate at the Kohl Center with a pair of games at the Kohl Center against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.  The games are 7pm Friday and 1pm Sunday.
