Illegal hit enforcement debuts in NFL games this weekend

October 22, 2010 By Bill Scott

The NFL has notified its teams by memo this week that it will enforce helmet hits on players with escalated fines and suspensions in its attempt to crack down on illegal hits that are leading to injuries and concussions.

Offensive players like the crackdown for the most part and defensive players are wondering how it’ll affect their game.  When fines are reaching $75,000 and suspensions are being talked about, players will take notice.  It’ll help clean up the game, but what kind of further affect will it have?

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said from a team standpoint, they’ll continue to work on technique and mechanics.

I talked with several Packers this week about the new league crackdown and filed the following report.
