Poll shows weak support for high speed rail

October 21, 2010 By Bob Hague

A newly released poll shows little support for Madison to Milwaukee high speed rail. Thirty nine percent of those surveyed last week strongly oppose the project. Wendy Scattergood with the St. Nortbert College Survey Center said poll respondents in the 608 area code, which includes Madison, were almost evenly split. “Very, very close. Fifty percent were actually supportive, 48 percent against. And then 715, 52 two percent were for it.”

Scattergood says it’s difficult to determine why the support in the 715 area code in northwestern Wisconsin. In the suburban Milwaukee 262 area code, 67 percent of respondents were opposed, and 52 percent were opposed in Milwaukee’s 414 area code. In the 920 area code in Green Bay and Fox Valley, 62 percent were opposed.
