Suit targets seller of crime guns

October 29, 2010 By Bob Hague

The Washington D.C. based Brady Center has filed suit against a Milwaukee gun shop on behalf of two of the six Milwaukee police officers injured by guns sold there over a 20 month period. Jonathan Lowy, Director of the Legal Action Project of the Brady Center, said officers Alejandro Arce and Jose Lopez III are heroes. “They literally took bullets to defend and protect the people of Milwaukee, and they deserve better than the irresponsible conduct of Badger Guns,” said Lowy.

Lowy said most gun dealers abide by the law. “The overwhelming majority of gun dealers sell no guns that are traced to crime, so it really stands out when a gun dealer like Badger has literally sold thousands of guns that are traced to crime.” The suit seeks unspecified monetary damages for the officers, and to stop Badger Guns from acting irresponsibly and from being the state’s primary provider of crime guns. “Badger Guns has been one of the top sellers of crime guns for well over a decade,” said Lowy.
