Unemployment down, so are private sector jobs

October 21, 2010 By Bob Hague

Wisconsin’s jobless rate ticked downward in September, but the number of private sector jobs decreased as well. Department of Workforce Development Secretary Roberta Gassman announced Thursday that Wisconsin’s unemployment rate for September – 7.8 percent seasonally adjusted – was down .01 percent from August and, a full percentage point lower than the rate a year ago. Gassman said though, there are still too many Wisconsinites out of work. Seasonally adjusted, the state’s number of private sector jobs – 2.3 million – reflects a decrease of 9,900in September. The numbers are preliminary and subject to revision within the next several weeks.
