Close, but no cigar for the Golden Eagles

November 23, 2010 By Bill Scott

Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 25 points and added 12 rebounds and 6 blocks to lead top-ranked Duke to a 82-77 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles in the semifinals of the CBE Classic on Monday night in Kansas City.

The Golden Eagles were able to tie the game three times late, but never could take the lead.

Jimmy Butler scored 22 points and Jae Crowder added 13 for the Golden Eagles who suffered their first loss (4-1) of the season.  The Golden Eagles will meet 22nd ranked Gonzaga in the consolation game today.
