Marquette spreads the wealth in win over Green Bay

November 18, 2010 By Bill Scott

Brian Wardle suffered his first head coaching defeat and it came against the team he once played and coached for, the Marquette Golden Eagles.

Jae Crowder scored 17 points, leading six players in double figures as Marquette rolled to a 89-69 win over the Green Bay Phoenix at the Bradley Center.

Wardle scored 1,690 points during his playing career from 1997-2001.

Marquette (3-0) also got 14 points from freshman Vander Blue, 13 from Jimmy Butler, 12 from Dwight Buycks and 11 points each from Darius Johnson-Odom and Davante Gardner.

The Golden Eagles shot 52% from the field for the game, while Green Bay was held to 35.9%.  Bryquis Perine led the Phoenix with 21 points while Steve Baker added 11.

Marquette hosts South Dakota on Saturday, before facing Duke in the CBE Classic Semi-finals next Monday night in Kansas City.

Green Bay continues its participation in the CBE Classic in Oxford, Ohio this weekend.  The Phoenix will face No. 25 San Diego State on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
