One dead in Sun Prairie home explosion

November 9, 2010 By WRN Contributor

A deadly morning in Sun Prairie, as a house explosion left one man dead and two others with serious injuries.

The explosion occurred around 3:30 Tuesday morning at a home on Coral Drive. A man at the home was killed, while a man and a woman were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Margaret Hanley lives about a mile away from the house. Even from that distance, she says the sound of the explosion woke her family up. They then followed the sounds of first responders to the neighborhood, where they found residents out walking around and debris from the home in the street.

Hanley says there was pretty much nothing left at the site of the blast and several trees were also snapped, much like they would be after a tornado.

A nearby elementary school was closed and about two dozen homes in the area were also evacuated following the blast.

Neighbors said the home recently had a new furnace installed, but authorities would not comment on if that was the cause of the explosion.
