‘Bad Badgers’ brouhaha

December 7, 2010 By WRN Contributor

Matt Rosenthal is on the worst people on campus list at the University of Wisconsin. It’s a list compiled by the Badger Herald newspaper, which printed names of 38 students selling their Rose Bowl tickets for a profit. “They don’t know those 38 students motives, they don’t know anything,” said Rosenthal, adding that the fact that there was no name attached to the opinion piece “was not cool.” Rosenthal said he put his tickets up for sale as a joke, and that there should be more tickets available for students.

Kevin Bargnes, editor- in-chief at the Herald, didn’t realize how nasty things would get. “People took this as a reason to go onto FaceBook or go to the UW Directory and find these people and send them hate emails and hate Facebood messages.” said Bargnes. “That’s not our goal, and that’s not at all right.”

The opinion piece said there was a ‘special place in hell’ for students who sold their tickets for a profit. It took only 20 minutes for 58 hundred student tickets to sell out. “These people aren’t really big Badger fans if their sole goal here is to buy tickets and try to sell them back to students at a profit,” said Bargnes.
