Laid off Marinette Marine workers to be recalled

December 23, 2010 By WRN Contributor

President Obama signed a spending bill Wednesday that will allow Marinette Marine to build ten new combat ships for the Navy. It may have taken longer than everyone had hoped but the new Navy contract will mean big things for the Wisconsin shipbuilder.

Marinette Marine President and CEO Richard McCreary says they’ll be getting to work as soon as the new year begins and the first priority will be recalling laid-off employees after the holidays.

McCreary says during the April to July period they can bring back the 180 laid off workers.

He says Marinette Marine will start to grow past its current employment levels after July, eventually peaking as 1,000 new jobs are added at the shipyard.
