Snow collapses animal shelter roof

December 14, 2010 By WRN Contributor

Saturday’s blizzard ripped down a roof covering an outdoors exercise yard at a New Richmond area animal rescue shelter. The main quarters of the Gregory’s Gift of Hope shelter was not damaged but director Colleen O’Shaughnessy says the fallen roof damaged other buildings in the complex and the debris has blocked access to laundry and office areas, requiring the staff to make big detours in the complex to make sure that their dogs and cats don’t get loose while getting their exercise. O’Shaughnessey says the shelter is looking for temporary or permanent homes for its animals. O’Shaughnessey says she’s not sure the not-for-profit’s insurance will cover the estimated $60,000 in damage.
