Walker taking time with cabinet picks

December 29, 2010 By Andrew Beckett

With less than a week to go before he’s sworn in to office, Governor-elect Scott Walker has yet to announce the key members of his administration. Walker says he is making progress towards getting those people in place, and hinted to reporters Tuesday that he hopes to name his cabinet secretaries later this week.

Walker is offering few details about who those agency heads will be. Although, he did indicate at least one of them is from outside of the state and has experience working with federal policy.

Even though they have not been publicly named, Walker says many of his picks for agency secretaries and other executive positions have been involved in the transition process. He says they have been sitting in on budget meetings and agency briefings.

Another reason for the delay, Walker says, is that other Republican governors advised him not to rush the process. He says it’s better to take your time, rather than realizing six months down the road you don’t have the right team in place.

Walker will be sworn in as Governor on Monday, January third.
