Firefighters in Kenosha responded to two major incidents in less than an 8 hour period – a house explosion late Monday night and an apartment building fire Tuesday morning. Fire Chief John Thompson says the first units at the scene of the apartment fire found residents hanging out windows awaiting rescue. “We instantly called for additional manpower to help with the rescue.” Thompson said, adding that it took 30 minutes to bring the fire under control because firefighters had to focus on getting everyone out of the building, which they were able to do. There were some injuries and the building is now uninhabitable. The natural gas explosion leveled an unoccupied house about ten blocks away and scattered debris for several blocks. The cause of both incidents remains under investigation.
