Navy contract boosts Beloit

January 13, 2011 By WRN Contributor

Fairbanks Morse in Beloit is building engines for the Navy. Vice President of Human Resources John Bottorff says the contract follows the Navy’s decision to purchase an additional ten Littoral Combat Ships designed by Lockheed Martin and built by Wisconsin’s Marinette Marine. “Two ships are already in process and we would be selected and have an opportunity to build engines for all ten of the ships that would be approved and built over the next several years.” Bottorff says the contracts will help stabilize and retain the current workforce in Beloit. The city has the highest unemployment rate in the state.
