Influenza season is underway, but there’s still time to get the vaccine. Tom Haupt with the state Division of Public Health says the flu season has definitely begun in Wisconsin. “We’re still at low levels, comparatively, but we have seen an increase,” says Haupt. He expects the flu to peak in late January or early February, so there’s still time to get the vaccine. And if you do come down with the flu – stay home. “Nobody’s helping out anybody by going into the office, going to school sick,” says Haupt. “It’s just going to spread the illness and make it worse.” This year’s batch of vaccine is widely available and appears to be effective for the strains of flu health officials are seeing – predominately influenza A which is a subtype of the more severe H3.
