Does the name Terry McAulay ring a bell? He’s the NFL referee that will officiate the NFC Championship game on Sunday at Soldier Field. It was McAulay’s crew that flagged the Green Bay Packers 19 times back in week 3. 18 of those penalties were accepted for 152 yards and the Packers lost 20-17.
McAulay will referee, but it won’t be with his entire crew. Playoff officials are chosen individually based on merit for the Championship games and Super Bowl.
The Packers certainly cleaned up their act since then. They finished the season ranked 3rd in fewest penalties. They averaged between 3 and 3.5 penalties a game over the last 12-games.
