President Obama will visit Manitowoc

January 18, 2011 By WRN Contributor

Local leaders are enthusiastic over news President Barack Obama will visit to Manitowoc next week. “It’s the kind of thought that takes your breath away,” said Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer. “That the President of the United States of American would come to Manitowoc to visit, is terrific.” It’s the first time a sitting president has visited Manitowoc. “That puts us on the map. It’s great news,” said Mayor Justin Nickles. The visit will come a day after Obama delivers his State of the Union address. “Usually presidents do that to advocate for their agenda for the coming year, and if he’s starting that in Manitowoc, there is no news that could beat that.” The White House is expected to release details of next Wednesday’s presidential visit in the next few days.
