FDL man arrested for Facebook threats

February 9, 2011 By WRN Contributor

A Fond du Lac man has been arrested for posting a threat on Facebook. Police says the 21 year old threatened to “pop” some people at school.

Police Captain Mike Frank says someone saw the post and alerted authorities. He says the threat did not specify which school. “He indicated that he was going to go to school and I believe his words were ‘pop some people.’ There was no specific school named, the party is beyond school age … we take those types of threats rather seriously.”

Police found out where the man lived and tried to contact him unsuccessfully. The officers staked out the residence and got a search warrant. After getting a search warrant, they went inside where they found the guy.

The man admitted to the posting, but said he was not serious. He’s been charged with disorderly conduct.

Frank says the department is active in social networking itself. “We’re active on Twitter, we’re active on Facebook, we’re active on a number of the social networking sites. As times change and methods evolve, the police department has to change and evolve with them.”

School district officials were made aware of the threat.
