Marquette falls to St. John’s, tourney hopes dashed

February 16, 2011 By Bill Scott

St. John’s rallied in the second half to beat Marquette 80-68 on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.  The Johnnies win snapped an 11-game losing streak in the series.

It’s the third win in six days for St. John’s, who also beat No. 10 Connecticut and Cincinnati.

Dwight Hardy scored 28 points to lead four players in double figures.

Jimmy Butler scored 21 points, but the Golden Eagles tournament hopes are fading, having dropped 5 of their last 7 games.

Marquette struggled to defend, passed up good shots and added 18 costly turnovers.
