Student rethinks teaching plans after capitol woes

February 17, 2011 By WRN Contributor

Union protests at the capitol along with budget problems in both the Madison and Janesville School Districts have at least one potential teacher reconsidering his career choice.

“I would very hesitant to make a successful career out of something that is diminishing,” says Janesville Craig Senior Nate Brault.

Brault says he is considering going into school administration instead of teaching. The high school senior also recognizes the challenges facing education but believes he may be able to make a difference if he enters the field.

Brault participated in a listening session between students and school officials Wednesday. Students had plenty of questions about budget cuts, how the budget repair bill will affect local schools and why they might need to sacrifice some classes. The Janesville School Board is holding a similar listening session this afternoon.
