Ziegelbauer on backing budget repair bill

February 18, 2011 By WRN Contributor

The Independent Assembly lawmaker planning to side with Republicans on the budget repair bill, recognizes the proposal is controversial. The bill eliminates collective bargaining rights and calls for concessions of public employees.

Bob Ziegelbauer of Manitowoc says protestors have been parked in front of his home and he’s seen the people gathering at the capitol. He adds this day could’ve been avoided if the increasing costs of civil service workers hadn’t been ignored.

The Independent state Representative says concessions are needed as the total compensation for public workers has been growing as much as four times the rate of inflation.

Ziegelbauer says the proposed concessions for government employees are modest, especially when comparing to the pay cuts and unemployment workers in the private sector have been dealing with in recent years.
