Greinke to start on DL

March 9, 2011 By Bill Scott

Newly acquired pitcher Zach Greinke will likely start the baseball season on the Milwaukee Brewers disabled list.

Greinke suffered both a cracked and bruised rib while playing in a pickup basketball game.  Greinke is expected to miss at least the first couple of weeks of the season and could extend to the entire first month.

Greinke had been nursing sore ribs throughout training camp.  Because he thought they were getting better, he declined to reveal what he did to them other than to stay it was “something stupid”.

Now, Greinke revealed that he was playing basketball at the outset of camp and went up for a rebound and fell hard on his left side.

Greinke’s injury will prevent him from being the Brewers opening day starter.  The Brewers aren’t sure yet who will take his spot in the rotation.
