Recall fever sweeping state

March 3, 2011 By WRN Contributor

There are already official recall efforts against five Senate Democrats and now there are attempts against eight Republicans. Government Accountability Board spokesman Reid Magney said groups filed their paperwork this week. The Senators are Rob Cowles of Green Bay, Alberta Darling of River Hills, Dan Kapanke of La Crosse, Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls, Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac, Luther Olsen of Ripon, Mary Lazich of New Berlin and Glenn Grothman of West Bend.

Magney said organizers now have 60 days to collect the necessary signatures to force a recall. “The number of signatures required is going to depend upon the number of people who voted for governor in the last election,” said Magney. “It’s going to range anywhere from 11,000 signatures up to 21,000 or 22,000 signatures. Last month, a group based in Utah officially started an initiative against the five Senate Democrats. Magney said the amount of recalls is unprecedented. “We have never seen anything like this,” he said.
