Republicans report death threats

March 11, 2011 By Andrew Beckett

Efforts to pass the Governor’s budget repair bill over the past month have outraged many in the state, with Republican lawmakers at the Capitol reporting death threats sent to their offices.  The Department of Justice says several lawmakers have received similar threats from a variety of sources.

During Thursday’s Assembly floor session to vote on the budget repair bill, Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald read portions of an e-mail he received. In it, the author talks about “putting a nice little bullet in your head” and planting bombs at Fitzgerald’s home and at the state Capitol.

The Department of Justice says the e-mails received by Fitzgerald and other lawmakers are being investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigations.
