WIAA Girl’s Basketball Super Tuesday (UPDATE)

March 22, 2011 By Bill Scott

***NOTE:  The games in Oshkosh and Stevens Point have been postponed until Wednesday because of weather.  Same times.***

The final eight Division 1 Girl’s Basketball Teams will be cut down to four tonight as the State Tournament looms this weekend.  Here is a look at who is taking the court on Super Tuesday:

In Stevens Point (7:00) Eau Clair North (23-2) takes on Appleton East (15-9).  East looks for the schools third trip to state with their previous appearances coming in 1990 and 1998.  North has only been to state once; back in 1981.  Neither team has won a game at state.

De Pere (22-3) faces Nicolet (23-2) at UW Oshkosh (7:00).  Nicolet has not been to state since 1997 and is looking for the schools fourth ever trip.  De Pere is looking to get back for the 4th straight year and 7th time in school history.  The Red Birds were runners-up a year ago.  They won gold ball in 1983 and 2005.

Wisconsin Lutheran College (7:05) is host to Pius XI (24-1) and Racine Case (22-2).  Pius is the defending champion and looking for the schools third trip to state.  Case made their first ever state tournament appearance a year ago.

At UW Whitewater (7:00) its Middleton (24-1) and Franklin (17-8).  Middleton tries to make their 4th straight trip to state and 7th ever despite never winning the gold ball.  Franklin looks to make it back to state for the 4th time in school history and 1st time since 2007.
