City council member attends via Skype

April 20, 2011 By WRN Contributor

The Fond du Lac City Council had a first during its meeting Tuesday night; a member attended via the internet. Jeff Ruedinger used Skype and emailed in his votes. Council President Rick Gudex says because it was the Council’s annual organizational meeting they allowed it. However he still expects members to be at meetings in person if at all possible.

Gudex says they checked with the state Attorney General’s office to make sure they could do it first.

Not all Council members could see Ruedinger on the computer screen, that was in front of Gudex and City Clerk Sue Strands, but could hear his voice. A technician checked the set-up prior to the meeting to make sure everything was working fine.
