Down to the wire for tax filing

April 18, 2011 By Brian Moon

As the deadline for tax filing closes in, IRS Spokesman for Wisconsin Christopher Miller says it’s common for people rushing through taxes to make math mistakes. He says take your time with the numbers.

Miller also encourages e-filing as an efficient method. But if you are using the online option, he says it’s better to write down numbers correctly rather than “cutting and pasting” on the templates.

Sometimes finishing today is not an option. Miller says that’s when an extension might be called for with Form 4868. He reminds us an extension to file is not an extension to pay. If you owe money to the government, the deadline is October 17th.

Deadline is midnight tonight. For where to file by mail click here.
