Fire tears through Cassville

April 19, 2011 By WRN Contributor

An early morning fire ripped through downtown Cassville, destroying several buildings. Julie Loeffelholz is with Grant County Emergency Management said 6 buildings were involved in the fire and 4 will be considered a total loss. She said 12 apartment residents have been displaced by the fire. No one was injured, but several firefighters had to be treated for hypothermia because of the cold weather. Fire crews used 500-thousand gallons of water fighting the fire. They had to start using water from the flooded Mississippi River, after the village’s water reservoir was drawn down. The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
