Planned Parenthood offers free STD tests

April 4, 2011 By Bob Hague

Planned Parenthood is offering free STD testing this month. Tanya Atkinson of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin says they’re providing free STD tests at all 27 health centers located throughout Wisconsin – in response to “staggering” rates of sexually transmitted diseases, “Rates of infection have increased 69 percent in just nine years,” said Atkinson. “Youth between the ages of 15 and 25 account for over 71 percent of all cases of chlamydea in Wisconsin.” The testing is part of the “GYT-Get yourself talking, get yourself tested” effort spearheaded by Planned Parenthood and MTV. Atkinsin says Wisconsin unfortunately also has seen a rise in HIV infections, and free HIV tests will also be offered.
